Analysis of 'The Matrix Reloaded' movie

I chose 'The Matrix Reloaded' as one of my thriller analysis projects. The clip I have used contains the movie's protagonist (Neo) and an antagonist who also has people to fight for him. The clip contains a number of other micro-elements which help establish 'The Matrix' as a Thriller movie such as the costume and mise-en-scene, more specifically the fact that all the characters who are fighting have black sunglasses on. The effect of this is portraying that they aren't really 'people' they are just fixated, almost robotically on their task; killing Neo.

'The Matrix' has employed a large variety of thriller conventions (thriller meaning a hybrid of crime/conundrum in an intense or high-action atmosphere).

(Above) This is a screen-grab to show the use of Bullet-time; a technique which was specifically created for the matrix. The use of this effect emphasises the character's powers and gives an unusual technique in the film.

(above) This is a screen-grab to show the sound micro-element; location sound (Neo jumping down the stairs). This effect emphasises the character's power. However, later on in the fight scene the fact that he is 'just a man' when he starts to bleed; established by the tracking close-up shot of blood creates tension which is reinforced by the increased tempo of the music. Here the audience, as a result feel on-edge and more involved in the film.

(Above) This shows the costume of the most vulnerable character. compared to the rest of the characters who are all black, or dark costumes he seems much smaller, weaker and therefore more vulnerable. This is reinforced by the use of birds eye view when he is running away, the effect of this is the feeling that he is being chased by someone/something stronger ad more dangerous than him.

Another convention the creators have considered is the lighting. In a typical thriller, the action scenes are set in a dark place, usually at night or in a dark room. However, in The Matrix Reloaded the fight scene is situated in a very light room, set in the day time to show all of the action and techniques clearly, which is what the audience want to see.
